What is Financial AI?
Financial AI® (thefinancial.ai) is an AI investment research assistant: you ask a question in plain language and get an answer computed from curated financial data. Each answer gives a one-line conclusion, the data table, a chart, a note on how your question was understood ("Note: I interpreted…") and suggested follow-up questions. Around the chat sit saved strategies and screeners, portfolio analysis, a Portfolio Builder, a watchlist and a learning library. Financial AI provides information and analysis, not investment advice. More: AI investment research.
Is Financial AI the same as other "financial AI" tools?
No. Many products, companies and articles use the words "financial AI". Financial AI® is the research platform at thefinancial.ai, operated by Global Financial AI, LLC of San Jose, California. Our official places are the website thefinancial.ai, the Financial AI® plugin in the ChatGPT directory, and support@thefinancial.ai. An app, site or account that is not reached through these is not ours.
What can I ask Financial AI?
Anything about investing or trading that can be answered with data, in any language: research a company ("What percent of NVDA revenue comes from China comparing to the US?"), compare performance, ask for forecasts ("What is your CPI Forecast?"), screen for stocks, backtest a strategy described in words, check the risk in your holdings, or design a hedge. You can attach up to 6 files per message: a brokerage statement is imported as a portfolio, and from any other document Financial AI pulls out the data you ask for. Sample Prompts in the app shows ready questions with finished answers.
How is Financial AI different from ChatGPT or Claude?
A general chatbot answers from memory and the web. Financial AI computes from curated financial data, runs real backtests and screens, has its own forecasts, analyses your actual portfolio, and shows its work. It uses leading third-party AI models to understand your request and connects them to its own financial functions, quantitative library and curated data. And if you like ChatGPT or Claude, you can use Financial AI inside them. See the feature comparison.
Can I use Financial AI inside ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. In ChatGPT, find Financial AI® in the plugin directory, add it and sign in with your thefinancial.ai account (or create one on that page); mentioning it with "@" in a message makes ChatGPT use it. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://thefinancial.ai/api/finai-mcp and sign in. The assistant can ask Financial AI questions and, with your permission, read or update your own portfolios and watchlist; it draws the charts itself. It cannot place orders or move money. Questions asked this way count toward your trial or subscription, just like on the website.
How do I know the answers are right?
Financial AI can make mistakes, and it says so. What it does instead is show its work: every number is computed from curated, licensed data, not recalled from memory, and each answer shows how the question was interpreted ("Note: I interpreted…"), the steps it took (Activity info) and the data behind it, which you can download. Answers you can verify. If something looks wrong, "Report an issue" on the answer sends it to the team.
Where does Financial AI's data come from?
From 1,400+ curated data sources: 15M+ time series and 3T+ data points. Every source is evaluated for relevance, consistency, accuracy and licensing before it is added, and continuously reviewed over time; sources that stop meeting the bar are removed. It is factual data, no panel data: company financials, market data, macro data from government agencies and industry sources.
Which assets and markets does Financial AI cover?
Stocks (all U.S. exchange-listed, non-OTC), thousands of ETFs including bond ETFs, options and crypto; the data also covers commodities, futures and forex. Market data spans the U.S., Japan, Europe and other major markets. Proprietary forecasts cover a subset: 1,300+ U.S. companies.
How do Financial AI's forecasts work?
Financial AI forecasts company fundamentals (revenue, adjusted gross income and adjusted EBITDA) for 1,300+ U.S. companies one quarter ahead, plus macro indicators such as CPI and recession probability. Inputs are SEC filings, government data and industry sources, not survey or panel data; 30+ proprietary models are combined into an ensemble with confidence scoring. Forecasts have been stored point in time since 2016 and are published daily, so they can be scored against what companies went on to report: 87.0% revenue-beat forecast precision for high-confidence tickers, and more accurate than consensus 60 days before earnings.* The forecast reports are also available in FactSet and Bloomberg. More: Forecasts. *Measured over historical point-in-time forecasts. Past accuracy is not indicative of future results.
Can I backtest a trading strategy without writing code?
Yes. Describe the strategy in the chat: instruments, entry and exit rules, period and benchmark. Financial AI reads the rules back as it understood them, builds the signals (custom indicators from technical, fundamental, economic or calendar data are coded on demand), simulates the strategy and returns performance against the benchmark, metrics such as return and drawdown, charts and the underlying trades. Save Strategy keeps it in your Workspace. Supported shapes include indicator and crossover rules, dollar-cost averaging, rebalanced mixes, top-N baskets, covered calls, stop-losses, intraday rules on 1-minute bars and futures. Backtests are hypothetical. Illustrative example. Simulated performance is hypothetical, does not represent actual trading, and is not indicative of future results. See Disclaimers and Disclosures.
Can I screen for stocks?
Yes. Ask for stocks, ETFs or crypto that meet your conditions (valuation, growth, margins, technicals, market cap, revenue geography, put/call ratio, earnings surprises) within an index or the U.S. market. The answer lists the matches and the rules applied; Save Screener keeps it, and Rerun the screener refreshes it later.
Which brokers can I connect, and what does Financial AI see?
TradeStation and Tradier directly, and many more through SnapTrade, among them Robinhood, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, E*TRADE, Webull, Public, tastytrade, Coinbase, eToro, Questrade, Zerodha, Chase, Wells Fargo, Empower, moomoo and Upstox; the broker picker shows what is available today. You sign in on the broker's own page and Financial AI receives your holdings and balances. Connections are read-only: Financial AI never sees your broker password, cannot place orders or move money, and you can disconnect any time under Connected Accounts. No broker? Add holdings by hand or import a file.
Can Financial AI trade for me or send trading signals?
No. Financial AI is for research, testing and portfolio analysis. It does not place orders, move money or rebalance accounts, and it does not send live signals from saved strategies. You can save a strategy and review or rerun it any time.
Is Financial AI investment advice?
No. Financial AI provides information and analysis, not personal investment advice, and nothing on the site constitutes an offer or the provision of any investment advice or service. Past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance. Independent advice should be sought in all cases. See Disclaimers and Disclosures.
Is my data private? Do you train AI models on it?
Financial AI can make mistakes, yet your data is never used to train its models. Personal information is never sold; data is encrypted in transit; passwords and access tokens are stored only as hashes. Broker connections are read-only and can be disconnected any time. Deleting your account deletes its data, except records kept by law. A connected AI assistant reaches only your own data and cannot trade or move money. Details: Privacy Policy.
Can I export the data behind an answer?
Yes. Tables have Download CSV, charts have Download → Chart data, and backtests also offer the positions and trades behind the result.
How much does Financial AI cost? Is there a free trial?
Start your free trial at thefinancial.ai/signup; no card is needed. Sign up with your email or by connecting a broker account, then choose Individual or Professional. The trial lasts a set number of days or questions, whichever comes first, and the current terms are shown when you sign up. After the trial you can continue with a subscription; for professional, team or institutional access, write to sales@thefinancial.ai.
How do I get help?
In the app, open Support → Messages, or email support@thefinancial.ai; the team covers U.S. and European time zones. The Learning library has videos, each quick-start card has an example, and Sample Prompts shows finished answers you can continue as your own chat.
